• DETENTION- Has begun in room 540 after school.  Wed. and Thurs. (Dr. Berberich)

• CHILD ABUSE TRAINING- All LAUSD employees must complete the NEW online training every year.  Rm. 114 Computer Lab will be able during these weeks (optional PDD) for anyone interested in the training. (Mr. Chong)

• FIRE DRILL- Thank you staff and students for helping us conduct a successful fire drill on Wednesday.  Also special thank you’s to 1^st Sgt. Jenkins, 1^st Sgt. Williams and JROTC student for your assistance with the drill. (Mrs. Hamilton)

• vannuyshs.org - www.vannuyshs.org- Check out our school website for school information and upcoming events. Don’t forget our website also has the capability to translate each page into 23 different languages.  The “Google Translate” button is located in the right CORNER. (Mrs. Giller)

• WANTED Graphic Designers- Are you creative and gifted in 2D graphic design?  Do you need to beef up our brag sheet for college applications?  The Magnet Coordinators are looking for students who want to help design new brochures to advertise all three of our Magnet programs.  Please see Ms. Park in the Magnet Office for more details.  (Ms. Park)

• Juniors – Do you want to attend a four year college? If so, you should take the PSAT which will be held here at Van Nuys on Wednesday, October 14^th.  Please come to the College Office to sign up.

• Textbooks –Reminder! Our Williams visit is coming up.  Please make sure that all of your new students go to the textbook room to get their books.  Teachers if are still in need of “William’s Approved” textbooks please let Cynthia in the Textbook room know immediately. (Mr. Chong)

• Meal Applications – Teachers, upon receipt of the application, please turn those in to the Title One Office, room # 115.  We need your support so that we can meet the 85% goal for this year.

• Safe School Plan Meeting-In accordance with District requirements, and for the health and safety of our school community, we are holding our Safe School Plan Meeting of the year 2009.  Van Nuys teachers and staff are welcome to attend:

• Attention Seniors- The deadline for signing up for the November SAT is Oct 1^st!! (Ms. Charlton)

• Senior Korean Students- The Korean Parents Association of Van Nuys High School offers scholarships to a few qualified seniors.  If you are interested, see Ms. Kim in the Magnet office for an application.  The dead line for applying is October 19, 2009 (Ms. Nicole Kim)

• Senior Pictures for Yearbook- HURRY SENIORS!! You need to have your senior picture taken before 10/03/09.  Go to www.whites-studios.com to make an appt. ASAP. Or call 1-818-727-2600 (Northridge) or 1-818-752-7783 (North Hollywood).  Appt. still available (Ms. Carr)

• UC Personal Statement workshop for all seniors- Are you having difficulty writing your personal statement for UC or private university applications?  Advising coordinator for the Educational Talent Search Program, Ms. Palacio, will be providing a personal statement workshop on October 8^th in the library for periods 2,3, & 4 for all seniors.  To attend this workshop you need to sign-up in the College Office.
