ROP Classes
Email your questions to Mrs. Giller at jbg0707@lausd.net (Those are zeros not the letter O).Mr. Agruso has a BBQ!! Download pictures below!! ROP Class Schedule has arrived. Sign up in the Career Center during Nutrition, Lunch, or with a pass from your teacher. Download class schedule from below. ROP, Regional Occupational Programs are available to and recommended for all students. ROP classes provide high quality, rigorous, standards-based, and relevant career technical education, commonly referred to as CTE, and job training. The world has changed and in a global, technology based workplace, students need skills their parents and grandparents never needed in their jobs. Academic classes are not enough. ROP provide all students with: * Job training and experience * Develop skills unable to develop in academic classes * Develop skills employers’ want * Career preparation * Credits needed for the Applied Technology graduation requirement * Elective credits (70 are needed for LAUSD graduation) Why take ROP classes? College is expensive. Most students will need to work. ROP provides students with the training and experience to command a higher beginning hourly wage than those that do not ROP. Would you rather work more hours to net the same pay? I wouldn't! Who monitors ROP quality? ROP is part of the California Education Code. Classes are state approved. Curriculum is academic and industry standards based. Who can take ROP classes? Classes are free to all high school students at least 16 years old or a sophomore. New classes begin in February. When are classes offered? Classes are offered before, during and after the end of the school day at VNHS. Community and industry held classes are offered before, during and after school and on Saturdays. How many classes may be taken? There is no limit to the number of classes a student may take. What is the ROP/C Mission? “The mission of the California Association of Regional Occupational Centers and Programs (CAROCP) is to promote and support ROCPs in providing exemplary career education, career development, and workforce preparation that contribute to student academic and career success and to the economic development of California.” How to sign up? See Mrs. Giller in the Career Center, room 119B, to complete a ROP Registration Form. |
