What is Work Experience Education (WEE)?
WEE is a class that provides learning opportunities through paid or unpaid employment or vocational experiences.

Who can enroll in WEE?
Juniors or seniors and students in special circumstances with permission may enroll in the WEE classes.

What types of WEE are available?
There are three types of WEE classes.
• General WEE for students in paid employment.
• Vocational WEE for students in paid employment that is in their career pathway.
• Exploratory WEE for students in non-paid employment.

Are credits given?
Yes, it is possible to earn up to 10 credits in one semester or 20 in one year for a total of 40 credits during high school. One or two periods of WEE may be programmed based on the number of classes you have and the number of hours worked in a week.

When does class meet?
The WEE class meets once a week and attendance, along with other requirements, is mandatory to earn credits. At VNHS, class meets every Tuesday morning at 7AM.

What will I learn in class?
The curriculum includes:
• Federal and state agencies responsible for work related issues
• Labor laws and sexual harassment
• Work safety and rights
• Workers’ Compensation
• Job searching
• Completing an application
• Interviewing from what to wear to getting the job
• Discrimination issues
• Oral communication skills
• Written communication skills
Completing an employer’s portfolio which includes: Letter of Introduction, Personal Data Sheet, Resume, References, Letters of Recommendation, Work Duties and Responsibilities List, Academic Work Samples, Employer’s Evaluation, and Other Miscellaneous Documents

Are there other requirements?
Yes. WEE is governed by state law. There are several papers that must be completed by your parents, your employer, and you. These papers are kept on file for five years and open to inspection by federal and state agencies. The WEE teacher/coordinator will visit your work site a minimum of two times each semester.
